Project description

Pikovnik Estate is an estate on Hvar, Croatia, that has fields of olive trees and lavender. The goal of the estate is to produce high quality, authentic olive and lavender based products such as: olive oil, hand soaps, aromatics and so on. Their idea is to collaborate closely with local hotels, restaurants and other tourism based business to provide them with their authentic yet luxurious products. As a short briefing by the client I was given the task to create a brand identity that will present the company as luxurious and will reflect the quality of the products. The products should look classy and not something that is mass produced in a big factory.

Making a Logo that balances elegance and tradition

The logo is minimal and assembled out of an icon and the name of the company. The icon can be used separately from the text allowing variation in use. The graphic part of the logo was created out of four overlaying letters P as the initial of the company name. The outlines of the letters create a diamond like shape while the inside edges create a pattern with a focal point in the small square that forms in the middle of the graphic.

Adding prestigiousness through colour

The choice of colour is minimalistic and untraditional amongst similar brands as it doesn’t include neither green or purple often associated with olives and lavender. This decision was made to prioritize the brand over its products and to separate it from other mass produce products in this field

Minimalistic typography with a touch of calligraphy

The typography is minimal and modern with many options for variation. A script font was also added as part of secondary typography to contrast the minimal primary font and to be used to emphasize the hand made quality of the products when needed.

Designing products with attention to detail

Olive oil is the main product of the company which is why I spent a lot of time trying to make the packaging fit the brand as well as possible. Through my research I found that olive oil is better preserved in the dark as light can make it degrade faster in quality. This was one of the reasons I made the bottle black and for a more luxurious feeling I also decided on a matte coating. The pattern is added onto the matte coated bottle in a black on black style differentiated only by texture which adds a sense of quality and attention to detail as it is a subtle but elegant touch. The pattern is printed with a UV polish technique that contrasts the matte defused look of the rest of the bottle.
